MEMBERSHIP

North Georgia Credit Union (NGCU) is a not-for-profit financial
cooperative owned by its members. When you join by opening
a savings account and making a small deposit, you establish
your ownership share of the organization. Unlike banks, credit
unions return earnings to members through lower loan rates,
higher savings yields, and fewer fees.

The best part? Once you’re a member, your immediate family members
become eligible to join AND you can remain a member for life even if you
move, change jobs, or retire!

At NGCU, we are different from traditional banks because we are a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative. Our mission is to serve our members, not to generate profits for shareholders.

  • Member Owned & Operated – Our members are our owners, meaning every decision is made with their best interests in mind.
  • Not-for-Profit – Unlike banks, we do not issue stock or pay dividends to outside shareholders. Instead, our earnings are returned to members through better rates on loans and deposits, as well as free or low-cost services.
  • Solely Member-Focused – We exist to serve the financial needs of the people who save and borrow with us.
  • Volunteer Leadership – Our board of directors is made up of dedicated volunteers who ensure all decisions are member-centric.

  • Member Education – We are committed to fostering financial literacy. We partner with GreenPath Financial Wellness to offer financial counseling and resources, and we collaborate with local organizations to promote smart financial habits.
  • Community-Minded – We actively support our communities and local non-profit organizations, including offering scholarships to high school students to help invest in their future.
  • Helping People Afford Life – We work to make financial services accessible to all. Our team provides personalized, local support to help members meet everyday needs, achieve their goals, and find financial stability and success.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Membership in NGCU is open to all who live, work, or worship in Franklin, Hart, Rabun, and Stephens Counties, plus employees of the following Select Employer Groups (SEGs).

HOW TO JOIN

To become a member of NGCU, you must first open a share account (savings account)
and make a required deposit of $30. As a not-for-profit cooperative, the credit union
is owned by our members, not shareholders, so your share account establishes you
membership and represents your share of ownership.
